IntelliJ IDEA

The mod template is a Gradle project that you can open directly in IntelliJ IDEA. It includes a runClient run configuration (.run/runClient.run.xml).

Prerequisites

  • IntelliJ IDEA 2025.2 or later (Community works)
  • JDK 25

Steps

  1. Open the project
Use File → Open and open the project folder (the one with settings.gradle.kts). When IntelliJ recognizes it as a Gradle project, click Trust Project.

  2. Set the JDK
Set the Project SDK to JDK 25. In Settings → Build, Execution, Deployment → Build Tools → Gradle, choose JDK 25 (or 17 or later) as the Gradle JVM, and leave Build and run using at its default, Gradle. The game run tasks are Gradle tasks.

  3. Run and debug
Run runClient from the run configuration list, or start it in debug mode (the bug icon). IntelliJ attaches the debugger to Gradle's game run task, so you can set breakpoints in your mod code.

Check without a window

worldCreateSaveTest loads the mod on a game test server and verifies it, with no screen. Run it from the Gradle window or from a terminal.

.\gradlew.bat worldCreateSaveTest

Logs

Results and logs are written to run/client/logs/latest.log (run/server/logs/latest.log for the server).

Parts that need a human check

All commands were verified from the CLI, but nobody has yet checked by hand how things behave inside the IntelliJ UI (import, run configurations, breakpoints). If you hit a problem, report it together with Troubleshooting.
